This illustration by the leading SF artist Wesso appeared on the cover of Marvel (or Marvel Science Stories) magazine of February 1939. This was more than eight years prior to the modern flying saucer/UFO era, and the aircraft-type depicted in the lower-left of the picture wasn't yet considered anything other than imaginary in form.
During the second half of the 20th century it has, however, been known in
UFO literature as the domed disc - this UFO type is commonly reported
and has also been photographed on numerous occasions.
