'All of the Indian and occult lore surrounding the Great Mountain fascinated Morrison, but he was particularly drawn to the Indian legend claiming that ancient Lizard People had built a massive underground city that extended below the mountain to escape a major Pacific coast meteor shower. The city, a series of connected tunnels shaped like a lizard, was said to have its head in the heart of Los Angeles, its tail under the city of Weed, forever joining the two cities. Jim felt very strongly that because of Pamela's genesis in Weed and her eventual migration to Los Angeles, where the two met, the legend linking the two cities was yet another in the series of signs that he and Pamela had been destined to find each other, were meant to be linked together forever.
But it was not only the union of Los Angeles and Weed that appealed to Morrison. The story of the mythical creatures that were said to have inhabited the underground city also captivated him. According to the legend, the Lizard People were the first inhabitants of the American continent and had colonies all over the Pacific coast. They were said to have revered the lizard and named themselves after the species because they recognised reptiles as a symbol of longevity and control. Inclined to peace and agriculture, they were much further advanced culturally and intellectually than modern human beings, characteristics that Morrison particularly admired....'
