MARC BOLAN: OTHERWORLDLY TIMELINE
1947 SEPTEMBER 30 - Mark Feld born.
early-mid-1960s - Trip to Paris, where he later claimed to have met a wizard, who lived in a castle-like residence.
Poem, signed 'Marc Feld' - sent to girlfriend Theresa Whipman.
1965 November - Release of first Marc Bolan single "The Wizard" c/w "Beyond The Rising Sun."
1966/1967 - Two more solo singles, and singles by first group John's Children released.
1968/1969 - Together with Steve Took, under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex, released 4 singles and 3 LPs with some success. Also, in March 1969, Marc's poetry book 'The Warlock of Love' was published. In one poem Marc relates how an illuminated "ship of rhythm" flies around erratically in the sky, and lands "snuggled like an acorn." Someone who is wise to Marc, cares about him, and has known him "since a sapling," imparts some terribly important knowledge - "a word to treasure as my inheritance."
1970 - Steve Took is replaced by Mickey Finn, with single "By the Light of the Magical Moon" and LP "A Beard of Stars" released.
According to biographer George Tremlett, Mickey Finn believed passionately in flying saucers "which he was convinced that he had seen down at Glastonbury"and Marc Bolan "had also seen flying saucers himself."
OCTOBER - First big hit single "Ride A White Swan," under new name T.Rex.
DECEMBER - First T.Rex LP release includes a song about the visitation of a silver spaceship ("The Visit").
1971 - "Hot Love," "Get It On" and "Jeepster" are big hit singles. The hugely successful T.Rex LP 'Electric Warrior' includes in one song a reference to being taken away in a flying saucer, and to having his head used "like an Exploder" by the "Planet Queen."
1972 - 'Born To Boogie' film; and more hits with "Telegram Sam," "Debora"(re-issue), "Metal Guru," "Children of the Revolution" and "Solid Gold, Easy Action." Among the tracks on 'The Slider,' issued in July, is "Ballrooms of Mars," which features lyrical references to monsters calling out "the names of men" in the nighttime, and to things in the night "that are better not to behold."
1973 - Three progressively less successful T.Rex singles issued: "Twentieth Century Boy," "The Groover" and "Truck On (Tyke)." 'Tanx' LP released in March.
1974 - "Teenage Dream" and "Light of Love" singles. LP release is 'Zinc Alloy and the Hidden Riders of Tomorrow,' which seems to link to the 1964 Socorro UFO landing, witnessed by patrolman Lonnie Zamora.
1975 - "Zip Gun Boogie," "New York City" and "Dreamy Lady" singles. LP 'Bolan's Zip Gun' released (includes "Think Zinc," also possibly linked to spacecraft composition).
1976 - "London Boys," "I Love To Boogie" and "Laser Love" singles. LP 'Futuristic Dragon' released.
1977 - LP 'Dandy In The Underworld,' and three more minor hit singles issued by T.Rex.
