'Divine Spark' - Dame Muriel Spark
interviewed by David Sexton,
literary editor, Evening Standard, March 8th, 2004
Spark first went public as a writer of fiction when, in 1951,
she won a short story competition witth The Seraph and The Zambesi, about
an angel appearing on stage at a nativity play in Zimbabwe. Angels matter
to her.
"Yes, I think angels explain life to me more than almost anything,"
she says. "I'm terribly interested in angelology, as they call it. I
think angels are messengers and they explain inspiration, human intellect,
rapport with animals, everything. I think there has to be a sense of message-carrying
- I think that is their function. And it is quite possible we've got a guardian
angel each. Otherwise, you know, the dangers of life would be overwhelming
to us all. We'd never be as organised from our brains as we are, without some
kind of divine intervention."
Does she know this from experience? I ask a little uncertainly. "From experience - also from creative experience of my work," she replies firmly.

dear dan'
a very interesting article. did you know
that an elderly indian guru Srila Prabhupaba [who started the Hare Krishna
singing in the west in the 60s] knew john yoko and george well and asked about
the beatles once he said that in their previous lives they were ghandarvas
[angelic singers praising.. higher beings]. if this is so and surely it is
as this saintly man had access to past present and future being totally pure
himself, then of course the beatles would b very susceptible to messages from
higher beings as thats what their consciousness was higher. hope this is of
some help to you please contact me if u need to with regards Hare Krishna
