September 1909: near golf links, Gore, New Zealand.
'The sensation caused in Gore by the reported sight of the airship on the 1st instant, has been greatly intensified by the appearance this afternoon of the mysterious object, it being seen by a considerable number of persons in different parts of town. Whether it is an aeroplane or not, on the strength of what has been more or less widely seen, there is no doubt that there is something of singular shape and size in the sky. Between 5.45 p.m. and 6 p.m. it appeared.. coming over the hills on the eastern side of the town Otaraia. It apparently sailed backwards and forwards at a a great pace and, turning around, gradually disappeared over the same hills, although it was subsequently seen in the direction of Gore racecourse. The children of a prominent resident saw it, and stated that it was of cigar shape. They were so certain of it that they telephoned their father in his place of business to advise him to look out from his office at the object. The father, however, had just left the building. Reliable testimony to the sight is also born by a party of golfers who were on their way home from the golf links when they saw it. They include the two gentlemen who viewed it previously. One of the party, however, thought it was a large kite, but he was unable to account for its rapid movements and manoeuvres. The others are of decided opinion that it was an airship which met their gaze, and they describe it as resembling a large codfish, and plunging in its movements. Many other persons corroborate the latter description, and Gore is intensely excited.'

March 1950: Toronto, Canada.
'Several sightings were reported on March 23, 1950, the first was from a
Mrs.J.Wilson, while visiting in Toronto. Another was sighted in the same area
by a Mrs.G.Fuller, while playing golf. It passed overhead at about 1,000 feet;
while a long, glowing, cigar-shaped object, giving off a blinking light was
observed by Mr.H.Rogers as it passed over the Maple Leaf Stadium.'

May 1952: near George AFB, California, USA.
Capt.Edward J.Ruppelt reported his investigation of a sighting that occurred
on May 1st, 1952 at 10.50 a.m. - '..a group of four officers.. were playing
golf on a course about 4 miles southeast of George AFB. One of the group,
a major, was facing east as the foursome stood around the flag on the ninth
hole, totalling up their scores. The major looked back down the fairway at
some golfers who were approaching the ninth hole and in the distance, against
a low range of mountains, he saw five objects moving faster than any jet he'd
ever seen. The objects were a "flat white" colour and either spherical
or disc-shaped.. sharply outlined against the mountain and appeared large
enough so that the major could definitely see their shape. (They) were flying
in a formation - three in the front and two "straggling" in the
rear. The two that were trailing were "zig-zagging around." Suddenly
they all pulled up into a tight "V" formation, made an almost 90
degree turn and zoomed over the mountain. They had been in sight about 15
seconds..
The major couldn't get the other 3 officers' attention during the sighting.
Excited by what he'd seen, he next reported the incident to the intelligence
officer at George AFB. This officer was listening to another reported sighting
(at the same time) of the same UFO formation made by a group of airmen from
the base firing range.
Investigator, Capt.Ed Ruppelt was able, by triangulation, to estimate the
speed of the UFOs as between 900 and 1,200 miles an hour, and their size as
from 1,000 to 1,200 feet in diameter.

August 1959: Aboyne golf course, Scotland, UK.
'Aboyne folk see saucer
Three women - G.E.Williams.. Mrs.G.Buchan.. and Mrs.A.Lovie.. - were walking
across the Aboyne golf course just after 8.45 p.m. on August 14th when they
saw a mysterious object. Mrs.Williams told the Aberdeen Evening Express:
"The object was travelling at a leisurely speed in an east-west direction.
It was of a rounded shape with a kind of fin or tail on the front. There was
a dull sort of light emanating from it, unlike that usually seen from an aeroplane."
Mr.A.Gordon, Golf Road, Aboyne, later became a witness of the object, which
finally disappeared westward.'

November 1964: vicinity of golf links, Aberdeen,
Scotland, UK.
'Mystery craft over Aberdeen
Two Aberdeen couples motoring along the beach promenade at dusk spotted an
object which they are convinced was a flying saucer. Mr.Robert Smith.. and
Mr.Sandy Young.. and their wives watched the object for about three-quarters
of an hour before it disappeared.
"It was blackish in colour and about 3ft. in diameter," said Mr.Smith.
"It was definitely powered by something because we could hear the purr
of what seemed to be blades. It came down to about 50 ft. and then started
side-slipping and going back up. There was a high-pitched hum or pulsation
coming from it. It dipped out of sight behind a shelter and although we ran
to the golf links it was by then out of sight."

May 1965: Haverhill, Massachusetts, USA.
'Richard M. and Philip E. were playing golf at the Bradford Country Club. The weather was absolutely clear with no clouds and a blue sky. Philip happened to glance up and was shocked to see a dull silver-colored noiseless object that looked like a "cup inverted on a saucer." It was perfectly motionless and just seemed to "hang there in the air." As they gaped at it in near unbelief, it suddenly sped away and out of sight behind trees "faster than a jet!" Hardly had it disappeared when it shot right back along the same flight path, hovered momentarily, and then shot off.. again."

September 1965: Candlewood golf course, Massachusetts, USA.
Just after 1 a.m., '..schoolteacher Dennis W. drove along route 133 towards
his home in Ipswich. Shortly before coming over the crest of a hill, near
the Candlewood Golf Course, he began to experience an unusual physical reaction.
A weird feeling of uneasiness swept over him. He felt the hairs on the back
of his neck stand up on end..'
Driving over the hill, '..he noticed a glow over the golf course. As he rapidly
closed in on the light, he was alarmed to see a phosphorescent object suspended
just above the ground..'
Dennis veered almost off the road, and barely straightening out,
sped away in terror, not looking back.
He described the object as being about 40 feet in diameter and as resembling an "inverted saucer with a flat dome," around which were at least five "oval-shaped windows," emitting a whitish glow. The whole structure was 'surrounded by a grayish glow with a reddish tint around it...'

December 1968: Blomidon golf course, Newfoundland, Canada.
'..Four residents of Corner Brook claim they saw a strange light hovering over the Blomidon Country Club on Monday, December 30, 1968. One woman was looking out a neighbour's living room window overlooking the golf course when the object suddenly appeared out of nowhere. She said the object hovered over the ground, had a mirrored sphere with a flashing white light at the bottom. On top of the sphere were two perpendicular sections, which appeared like six-foot, flame-red cylinders. "It was beautiful," she said. It slowly disappeared gaining altitude beyond a line of trees. The woman said it made no sound...'

March 1970: Dows golf course, Iowa, USA.
'..The following night (March 5th-6th) police at the Belmond Radio Tower
were notified at 12.55am of strange lights.. Wright County Sheriff's officers
were notified and they found the three witnesses who had noticed the lights
near Dows. The three men first noticed the light hovering in an erratic manner
over the Dows golf course, then they saw one east of them and another behind
them. The lights were white, and there was no colour change.
After members of the.. Sheriff's office and a highway patrolman arrived, the
three cars waited at the Dows golf course. They waited from two o'clock to
four o'clock. After some time the light suddenly appeared. It was very intense
and cast a reflection on the light cloud overcast through which the stars
could be seen. The light moved in a direct line from east to west, at approximately
eight to fifteen thousand feet and the officers and people observed it for
forty-five seconds. Just as suddenly the light disappeared, leaving no vapour
trails. It made no sound. There was no blinking light, and the people on the
ground were experiencing an eerie feeling of seeing something they could not
explain...
When the three men from Dows first noticed the lights, a small aircraft came
along and the lights hung motionless until the plane was out of sight. As
soon as the plane had gone the lights moved about...'

September 1971: Westerhope golf course, Northumberland,
UK.
On September 30th, 1971, at 6.15 p.m. '..Mr.J.Hall saw a massive silver-coloured object, like two saucers joined together, hovering over Westerhope Golf Course. It was as big as 5 or 6 Jumbo Jets put together, and rose, vertically and quickly, into cloud.'

October 1971: Northwood golf course, UK.
On the afternoon of October 27th, 1971 '..a woman graduate teacher of Pure Mathematics reported seeing a magnificent craft hovering in daylight over Northwood Golf Course.. estimated at 1000 feet in length, (it) was constructed of glass-like material gleaming like aluminium foil, with 10 observed windows, or facets, each 100 feet in width. The windows were inset at an angle to the vertical, and the whole lower "window section" was slowly rotating, giving flashes of intense illumination as each came into view. The witness observed the object, intermittently, for a period of from 2 to 3 minutes, and then saw it recede obliquely upwards to vanishing point in the space of under 1 second of time, a movement that would require almost instant acceleration to a speed of at least 200,000 miles an hour. The witness arrived at the house where she was to give a private lesson, about 2 minutes later in a state of shock and excitement, and was immediately persuaded to sketch what she had seen...'

July 1972: Adelaide golf course, South Africa.
'Adelaide Technical High School mathematics master Mike Benade.. had been
playing an early morning round of golf at Adelaide golf course.. partnered
by a Mr.Rademayer. Suddenly they came across a patch of scorched grass in
the middle of the closely cropped ninth fairway. The patch measured 20m by
12m. What puzzled golfers and officials was that although the grass was mid-winter
brown and dry, it was so short that fire wouldn't spread through it. Attempts
to burn a nearby patch of similar grass failed. Although there is a main road
nearby, and some African houses, nobody saw a fire, and if somebody had wanted
to get warm, it would have been far easier to have burnt the long grass in
the rough beyond the fairway. Inevitably people started to think of UFOs:
an ideal "landing ground" indeed. Police had been given samples
of the soil and grass, but had not released any information by July 12.'
On July 10th, at 8.30pm, Mr.Bernade witnessed, along with his wife, a 'very
large bright light,' which was '..about 15 deg. above the horizon, hovering,
keeping almost still.' This sighting occurred between Grahamstown and Adelaide.

June-July 1974: near Harborne golf course, Birmingham,
UK.
'Flying Saucer Probe in City -
A special 'flying saucer' department set up by the Ministry of Defence is
examining reports of sightings from Birmingham. / People living near Harborne
Golf Course started seeing the glowing, darting objects in the late evening
sky in the middle of last month. / But checks with weathermen, Birmingham
Airport and Birmingham University have failed to establish any reason such
as meteorological balloons or aircraft.
Now Ministry of Defence officials have written to the residents of Bournevale
Park estate confirming that their reports "are being examined to see
if there are any defence implications."
Policeman's wife Mrs.Margaret Westwood - she is a former police officer herself
- said today: "One of the sightings was very frightening. It seemed to
hover right overhead and then drop suddenly.
The objects are quite silent and glow orange turning to white. Sometimes they
leave a red trail.
Through binoculars they seem to be a tubular light."
She said more than a dozen people living near their home in Wentworth Way
had seen the unidentified flying objects in the last three weeks. Among them
are an electrical engineer and a doctor.
"Initially the lights travelled in a south to north direction but following a spell of inactivity during cloudy weather had changed to an east to west direction," said Mrs.Westwood.

April 1979: Poughkeepsie golf course, New York, USA.
One night, at 9pm, three high school boys walking through a golf course sighted
a 'star' that seemed out of place in the sky. It descended, and turned off
its bright white light.
The object stopped suddenly about 50 feet above the boys. It was about 50
feet long, shaped like a boomerang with a grey graphite look, and remained
suspended in the sky for about a minute.
Then, it suddenly began to move about '..at amazing speeds and turning sharp
angles in about the space of three acres, but staying the same distance above
the ground..'
Finally, the object (which had lights along its underside) went back to its
original descended position, before taking off at great speed.
