Jellyfish
(&
Umbrellas, Shuttlecocks and Parachutes)
June 19th, 1947.. South of Pendleton, USA.. '..at
11:00 A.M. PST.. Mrs.Morton Elder observed seven umbrella-shaped
objects.. flying north and emitting a humming noise. Other independent witnesses
reported a similar sighting in the area.'

October 3rd, 1954.. Amiens, France.. '..A few minutes
after the Marcoing incident, and in the direction taken by the object, three
residents of the town of Amiens saw a luminous ball of a brilliant orange
colour at low altitude, having the shape of a "mushroom hat." According
to the report, "The upper part of the 'mushroom' appeared to vibrate
as it changed colour from violet to greenish, while short 'cables' of some
kind hung from the bottom surface." '

May 17th, 1955.. UK.. 'NORFOLK HEADMASTER SEES "FLYING
JELLYFISH"
A strange object which resembled a flying jellyfish, was described on May
17th by the headmaster, Mr.G.A.Fell, and four boys at Upwell school, Norfolk.
It glided over the school swiftly, in heavy rain, and was also likened to
a large semi-deflated balloon.
*We are endeavouring to obtain more information and sketches from Mr.Fell
- but lacking further information than the above (which came from the Daily
Mail of 18/5/55) our reaction would be that - "If it looked like a balloon
- then it quite possibly was a balloon!" - Ed.'

April 21st, 1957, 1.45-2.30 a.m... France.. From
report by Raymond Veillith -
'Atmospheric conditions: excellent. Very clear sky, with a few scattered clouds..
Number of objects seen: one, but this seemed at times to split into two objects,
one above the other.
Position of the object: in the sky to the east, approaching by fits and starts.
Witnesses: Mme. Gilberte Ausserre and Mme. Rolande Prevost, of Montlucon.
Description: looked like a jellyfish: the top hemispherical, golden yellow
in color (the witnesses compared it in color and luminosity to the sun), the
bottom made up of luminous vertical filaments alternately green and violet
in color. The object was very brilliant; after prolonged observation their
eyes were dazzled and their vision fatigued. Its diameter, at first small,
was at its maximum equal to that of the full moon, or the sun.
The object remained visible for forty-five minutes, then "went out"
for good. the witnesses observed neither the arrival nor the departure of
the object. No motion was ever noted. On some of its appearances, the object,
instead of resembling a jellyfish, seemed to be "twinned" vertically.'

Mystery>
'..The dimensions of the third type of object are variable - or else they
have sometimes been wrongly estimated - but its shape has been described,
very clearly and with a good deal of uniformity, many times in both 1954 and
1957. It is a hemispheric dome which bears on its under-surface a multitude
of "cables" or "stalks" or "antennae" or "rods"
or "long, very slender tubes," and which is able to lower a smaller
object to various distances beneath it. The "filaments" are multicolored.
Those who have had the clearest view of this object agree as to the best comparison:
it is a kind of "jellyfish" - the term that I myself have used to
describe it.
It is to this "jellyfish saucer" that the most fantastic behavior
has been attributed: projection of multicolored lights, pursuit of automobiles,
car motors stalled and headlights extinguished, paralysis of witnesses, and
even sonic and magnetic phenomena. And it too may have "creatures"
of small stature, bizarre appearance, and strange behavior, as pilots or passengers.'

July 8th, 1961.. Ohio, USA.. '..at 10:10 p.m., an
orange-yellow object that looked like "an umbrella with a light below"
was seen at Fairborn, Ohio, for ten minutes. The sketch given by the witness
fits exactly the description of the "jellyfish" object in flight
as given by French observation of Milly-la-Foret and other classical cases.
The UFO followed a straight line and disappeared toward the southwest.'

'A glowing object flying high in the sky over Redhill was reported by a Gatton
Park Road resident on Tuesday evening.
He was watching TV, and at 9.45 noticed the object crossing Redhill from the
direction of Godstone. "It might have been from five to 20 feet in circumference
and was shaped like an inverted shuttlecock," he said. "It made
no sound and was visible for about a minute-and-a-half."
A well-known local figure and director of four firms, our informant said he
and his wife were perfectly clear about the phenomenon, yet, could offer no
natural explanantion.'

August 1968.. Algeria.. 'Yesterday
(August 7th) at 7.45 p.m. an oddly-shaped device resembling an umbrella drawing
behind it a luminous green trail has been watched for 30 seconds by the people
of Biskra. This sighting is confirmed by many inhabitants of this Algerian
town.'

an unspecified night in the winter of 1969, Zhang Lixia and others, discovered
a white luminous object like a big parachute flying from north to south in
the sky above the Tondao Guo Production Brigade of the Yang-yun Commune. It
flew over for about 5 minutes. More than 10 responsible members of the Production
Brigade followed and searched for the object, but found nothing.' <W.Stevens

6 and 8 am. Amongst several others having the sighting, Fritz Johnson, J.B.Russell,
Homer Farrell, and Geo Brunt watched the object for some time when Mrs.Johnson,
with her husband said she saw what appeared to be shaped like a man-of-war-fish
come into view.' <Plaindealer, Durant, Mississippi,

September 10th, 1977.. near Colusa, California, USA.. A
power failure occurred in Bill Pecha's mobile home, so he went outside to
check the circuit breakers. He felt static electricity, and looked up to see
a brightly lit domed disc hovering overhead.

There was a large red light on the front, and lights
on either end of the object. The rim was spinning clockwise and there were
six appendages with frayed out ends dangling beneath it. Outside of these
were hooks. As the object moved away slowly over a field, beams of light shot
down from it. Mr.Pecha also observed the appendages retracting to varying
extents. The top section of the UFO had a porous "slag" look, while
the lower part had the appearance of porcelain.
Two similar objects were seen in the distance.
The first-seen object shot off at great speed, then, it returned as the other
two were seen to depart.
After nine minutes, the power returned in Mr.Pecha's mobile home with the
primary UFO still there. He fled to a friend's house with his wife and children
and it pursued them, at a distance.
His friends and family were able to witness the UFO. Later, physical traces
were found in the close-range sighting area. <R.H.Hall

September 1977.. Petrozavodsk, Russia.. 'Inhabitants
of Petrozavodsk have witnessed an unusual phenomenon of nature. At about 4.00
o'clock on the morning of September 20, an enormous 'star' flashed into view
on the dark horizon emitting pulsed clusters of beams of light. This 'star'
moved slowly towards Petrozavodsk and, coming to a halt overhead, it bathed
the whole town in a mass of extremely fine beams that gave the impression
of a torrential rain of light pouring down.

(The UFO Encyclopedia/ICUFON)
After a while, this illuminatory effect ceased. The 'jellyfish' then changed
into a bright semicircle and began to move off again in the direction of Lake
Onega, over which area the horizon now became shrouded in grey clouds. In
this shroud there appeared, as it were, a semicircular hole of light, bright
red in the centre and white on the edges. According to the testimony of the
eyewitnesses, the phenomenon lasted for ten to twelve minutes.'
