Keenes Boy Chased Home By 'Flying Saucer'; Police Called!

BOY TELLS WHAT HAPPENED

Wayne County Press, August 5th, 1963.

Ronnie Austin, 18, of Keenes gives the Press the following exclusive account of what happened Sunday night:

My girl friend, Phyllis Bruce, 18, and I had driven to Mt.Vernon and attended the drive-in movie. We saw the show, "The Escape", an exciting picture of a German prison camp.

"About eleven o'clock we headed out of Mt.Vernon east on Route 15 for home. Phyllis had gotten angry at me and as we drove along east passed the airport I leaned over to speak to her and when I looked out the car window to the south I saw this big white object moving along just over tree tops. It looked as big as an automobile.

I said to Phyllis, "Look there at that thing, is it an airplane?"

Phyllis looked out and replied, "No, it's not an airplane... it doesn't have the flashing red and green lights.

"Men From Mars"

Then jokingly, I remarked, "Maybe, it's some little green men from Mars coming to get us."

When I said that I did not realise the exciting experience that was about to be ours.

When I'd speed my car up the object would speed up. When I'd slowed down it slowed down. My car is built for racing and at one point I drove 120 miles an hour and it stayed right after me.

At first it was on the south side of the road and then it crossed over in front of me to the north side. One time it came within a hundred feet of the car. I had my radio tuned on WLS...I thought they'd announce if some foreign attack was underway. When that thing crossed over my car the radio went crazy...it made all kinds of sounds so I turned it off.

When we reached my girl's house her sister, Forrestine, got up and came outside and looked at it. And all of a sudden it started moving closer so we ran inside, turned the lights off and watched it through the window.

Chased Him Home

Finally, I had to go home so I made a run for the car. That's when the fun really began.

Soon as I pulled away from the house the object began to follow. Me or my car seemed to attract it. I really poured the coal to the car and I must have been doing a 120 when I topped the hill on the gravel road not far from our place. I was coming into a dead end spot in the highway and the object seemed to exert some strange force on my car otherwise I would never have been able to make the turn. It slowed me down at an unbelievable rate of speed.

Then the thing came straight toward me and hovered over my car. My car engine started to miss...it wouldn't hardly go...finally the motor died. I didn't know what was going to happen then. Then the light moved over to the side of the highway, overhead, and my car started. I raced for home.

Thought He'd Gone Crazy

I ran inside and woke up dad and mum. They thought I was drunk or had gone crazy. I told them they'd better call the police. Dad ran outside and took one look and ran back inside for his gun. His is a 12 gauge Remington automatic. When the object saw that gun it seemed to move right toward us. We ran back inside. Dad got all of us in the kitchen and turned off the lights. He called the police at Mt.Vernon. First the phone was dead, but on a second try he got through. The police, at first, thought we were joking.

At this point I was so excited the folks saw I needed medical aid so they called Dr. Konarski at Fairfield and he told them what to give me.

When the police arrived they saw the strange object too.

Two of my buddies, Gary Karacher and Tom Kissner stayed there and watched it all night. It was still visible when the sun came up at about 4 o'clock this morning.

The object was round and moved with the most ungodly speed I ever saw...I can't imagine what it was."

Six Teens Tell of 'Chase' by Buzzing, Lighted UFOs

POLICE CHIEF CONVINCED THEY SAW SOMETHING

The Denver Post, April 8, 1966.

By ROBERT KISTLER

Denver Post Staff Writer

Six picnicking Denver teen-agers reported Thursday night they were chased for an hour by unidentified flying objects in Daniels Park south of Denver in Douglas County.

The high school students - three boys, three boys - told Police Chief John C.MacIvor of Littleton they witnessed unexplained, apprently "hovering" red, blue and white lights accompanied by a series of pulsating buzzing sounds which began about 9:30 p.m.

The teen-agers, all 17, who described what they saw hesitantly, were described by MacIvor as being "sincere, cold sober and a little shaken by what they saw."

The group appeared at MacIvor's office shortly before 11 p.m.

"I was real skeptical at first," MacIvor said. "But each of the kids called their parents - who knew they'd been picnicking - to tell them where they were.

"I don't know what they saw," he said, "but I'm convinced they saw something."

Alan Scrivner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Scrivner of 1040 Jackson St., a junior at East High School, gave the following account:

Scrivner and five friends drove to Daniels Park, 10-12 miles southeast of Littleton, about 6:30 p.m. They parked the car and walked about a city block down a small incline and up again to a stone shelter built in the side of a hill.

The group was sitting around a fire they'd built inside when they heard "what sounded like a man walking on top of the shelter." The roof can easily be reached on foot from the slanting hillside.

Scrivner and Don Otis, an East High junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Otis, 1939 Fairfax St., stood on top of the shelter and shined a flashlight into the surrounding area. They saw nothing.

The two - leaving the others behind in the shelter - made their way through the underbrush back to the road. "I thought someone was messing around my car," Scrivner said.

"Just as we got to the car," he said, "both of us heard a real weird buzzing noise. It seemed to be all around us."

As they reached the car, the youths saw "two red lights - about a foot each in diameter - about two feet off the ground and parallel to each other." There was a white light in the center of the reds.

The lights, about 20 feet apart, appeared to be in a field on the far side of the road "about 25 yards" from the car. The two, thinking "it might be two parked cars or something," crouched in the ditch and waited.

About three minutes later, they again approached the car. They saw and heard nothing. They returned to the shelter.

The four in the shelter said that, while the two had been gone, they'd heard the same "footstep-like" sound on the roof again. Two of the girls said they'd also seen a "tall man, who might've been wearing a raincoat," dart through the light showing through the window into the area. they also said they heard his footsteps.

The group decided to leave.

As they were walking back to the car, Otis turned and saw "a real bright flash behind the hill over the shelter and it lit up the whole area."

Buzzing 'All Around'

The ominous buzzing began again. No direction, "just all around - never heard anything like it in my life," Scrivner said. Shortly afterward as the group neared the car, they all agreed they saw the same thing.

Two blue lights hovering low in the sky, about three-quarters of a mile away. The lights were stationary and went from bright to dim. A third - white - light appeared to rise up and down between the blues and "lit up the area."

No outline - other than the lights - was visible.

They perched atop the car's hood and watched the blue and white lights "off and on" for about a half hour. The lights appeared in back of the shelter - in the opposite direction from the first lights seen in the field.

Twenty minutes later after the blues appeared, another set - these, blues with a bright red in the center - appeared "off to the left of the others and about a block away." These hovered near the ground. The buzzing continued.

The night was overcast with no stars visible but "real clear beneath the clouds where the lights were." As the third set of lights hovered, the youths agreed they could see a dark outline between the lights.

"It looked like a black football - the blue lights on each end - with an orange on top, like a bubble. The red light was at the bottom. It didn't move up and down, but did cast a beam of light on the ground," Scrivner said.

'Car Didn't Work Right'

The youngsters piled in the car - a 1954 Ford - and started out the park.

"You'll all think we're nuts," Scrivner said later, "but my car didn't work right. I could get it up to about 30 (miles an hour) then it would cut out like someone turned the ignition off. Then it would start up again."

Scrivner also complained that the radio was "playing nothing but static" while they left the immediate area of the shelter.

As they drove off, two of the girls and Otis saw what appeared to be a "large, oval circle of light - it covered the whole road - following the car."

Mary Zolar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack A. Zolar, 945 Fairfax St., a senior at East, was in the back seat with two others.

"It was huge and glowing," she said, "and came right up to the back of the car, then went out. It lasted about three seconds."

As the car left the park area, it quit "missing out" and the radio played normally, Scrivner said.

Called Sheriff's Office

The youths stopped at a service station and called the Arapahoe County sheriff's office, then went to MacIvor's office.

MacIvor said "one of the impressive things about their story" was all six didn't claim to have seen the exact same thing at the same time.

"And a couple of them are real shook up," he added.

The operations officer at Lowry Air Force Base said early Friday he'd received a call apparently from the Arapahoe County sheriff, reporting the sightings.

Others in the group were Michael Simington, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Simington, 773 Jackson St., a junior at East; Patty Retherford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Retherford, 742 Harrison St., a junior at Mapleton High School, and Kaye Hurley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hurley, 5736 Montview Blvd., a junior at Machebeuf High School.

Two other UFO sightings were reported in the state, one in Delta and the other in Denver.

Delta Police Chief D. C. Morgan, patrolman Earnest Markley and reporter Don Prather of the Delta Independent watched an object which was "glowing, green in color and very bright." The men observed it for almost two hours before it disappeared by "rising straight up."

In Denver, Terry Datz, 19, a University of Denver student, said he and Dennis Sullivan of Mt.Vernon, N.Y., sighted about sven UFOs which appeared "garbage can lid size."

The students said the objects disappeared into the clouds after about 10 minutes.

Greg Faltersack's Experience: Two newspaper pieces

Milwaukee Journal, August 21, 1972.

A Sussex man reported to sherifff's deputies that a large unidentified flying object early Monday had mysteriously caused his car to lose all power and boil over as he was driving near Sussex.

Greg V.Faltersack, 18, who lives with a sister at W234-N5887 Lilac Dr., said the incident occurred about 2 or 2.30 a.m. as he was driving on Waukesha County Trunk JF between Highways F and 164. Faltersack, a restaurant worker, said he was on his way home from his girl friend's house when his 1963 Plymouth suddenly suffered a complete electrical failure, the engine died and the car's radiator boiled.

Faltersack said he slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a stop, and saw a large orange circular object that appeared to be hovering just over the treetops. Faltersack estimated that the object was 20 to 30 feet in diameter. He said he had it in sight for about seven seconds and that the object then went 'beep, beep' and rose out of sight.

Faltersack said he was able to restart his car but that the lights, horn and radio still would not work. He was able to drive home and told his sister about the incident. They returned to the scene, could find nothing and reported the incident to the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies Thomas Audley and Jeri Kraus checked the area described by Faltersack and found skid marks where he had brought his car to a stop. They could find nothing amiss. They said that trees in that area were about 40 feet high, indicating that the object reported by Faltersack would be slightly higher than that.

The deputies also verified that all of the fuses in Faltersack's car had overheated. They said Faltersack had not been drinking but was visibly shaken by the incident.

[FSR 18-5 (R.Heiden)]

The News American of Baltimore, Maryland, August 30, 1972.

Greg Faltersack told police he was driving along a lonely country road surrounded by mist and woods when he saw the thing. He was returning home on a familiar route to nearby Sussex after visiting his girl friend.

Suddenly the electrical system in the 18-year-old's 1963 Plymouth went dead. Faltersack braked, skidded nearly 25 feet across the road and halted on a shoulder...

After about 10 seconds, he told authorities, the object made a strange 'beeping' noise, and took off into the sky and out of view. Faltersack then could start the car, but the lights, horn and radio wouldn't work. He drove home and called the Waukesha County Sheriff's office.

Two deputies questioned Faltersack, a restaurant manager who is planning to join the Air Force. His sister, Mrs. Lenore Hildebrandt, said the lawmen were 'serious.'

The deputies found that all the auto fuses had been blown and that the car had become overheated. They found the skid marks at the scene and noted the trees were about 40 feet high. Their report described Faltersack as 'stone cold sober,' and 'extremely upset and nervous, unable even to light a cigarette.'

Sgt. Charles Hughlett of the sheriff's office speculated that the foggy condition may have created strange reflections. 'But I talked to Faltersack on the phone and he was pretty shook up. He certainly saw something,' Hughlett said.

Account by Bill Gowan Regarding His Experience

From - The Emergency Press, May 1973:

'I have read the (saucer) book you sent me, and I enjoyed it. I found the material very interesting' (Editor: Flying Saucer Up-Day! by Laura Mundo). Bill felt the newspapers had not properly reported his sighting and gave it to us in detail........

'It was about 9:50 am January 8, 1973, when I first saw anything of a UFO. There was about three and a half inches of snow on the ground at that time. I went out to play in the snow, WHEN I SAW A SMALL ORANGE DOT ABOUT 25 DEGREES ABOVE THE HORIZON. I saw this for about 3 mins, during which time it appeared to grow in size, probably because it came towards me. I thought nothing of the object, and went in the house, where I pulled off my snow clothes. Then I turned on both the TV set and radio, and picked up the telephone and called Mr. Pat Nanny of Radio Station WBBO in Forest City, N.C. We talked about 2 minutes, and then my radio began to squeal, like it was placed next to a tv set.

After about 3 seconds of this, the colour tv set began to mess up itself. All the colours seemed to run together, and then it started to make a noise, much like the radio. Both sets were emitting a noise much louder than they were playing to begin with. I told Pat to hold on while I turned them off. While I was gone he confirms hearing the noise. I walked back to the telephone and I heard a noise much like thunder over the house..I leaned over and looked out the window and saw the thing coming down very slow. Hovering and about 9 feet off the ground and coming down slower. It got about 6 inches from the ground and it began to drift to the right and SAT DOWN IN THE PASTURE.

I was stunned and hung up the phone. I then got my clothes on and began to put film in the camera. I then started to walk out the door with my camera. I got within about 15 feet of the object and snapped a picture (it was then my idea to photograph the object before before I messed with it) and then I walked closer to take another photo. I got within 10 feet and began focussing. THEN THE AIRCRAFT BLASTED OFF THE GROUND, SLOWLY AT FIRST, THEN GATHERING SPEED, UNTIL IT GOT ABOUT 50 FEET OFF THE GROUND, THEN A LARGE NOISE CAME OUT OF IT MUCH LIKE A SHOTGUN. IT THEN TILTED AND WENT AWAY TO THE NORTH.

After it left I went back to where it blasted off from and there was about a 4 inch diameter hole in the snow and ground (the ground was burned down about two inches) and the snow all around for about 1 yard was littered with small black particles, and the hole was filled with a green liquid, which was analyzed by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the report came back from there: 'NOT A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE: NOT IDENTIFIABLE WITH ANY OTHER SUBSTANCE: DID NOT SEPARATE INTO ELEMENTS.' ' (Bill also enclosed a sketch of the space craft..THREE FEET HIGH..with what he thinks was a transparent nose section on the upper portion extending down over the little ledge..setting on four legs, with flame jetting out of bottom downwards..the ledge square, according to sketch from top..with footprints, beginning at one leg of the ship, one set going all the way around the craft, then going out about 4 feet distance, then meeting the other set of prints, which just originated at the same place and walked to the place ofrendezvous, then both of them returned to the same place they emerged.

Three feet isn't very high, to be sure, for a vehicle in which people might have travelled and made tracks in the snow about it (or footprints, the size of which Bill did not mention)..two people, evidently; some of the people coming however are very small (so ship not necessarily remotely controlled as APRO said..and making foot tracks, also. And with a jet thrust at bottom of ship, proving they are not as evolved as the more advanced (than us) space people coming (under whom the less evolved, than we are, space people, travel, as part of their education)..drawing energies directly from the atmosphere (and space).....
